This special postcard was drawn by a pilgrim who visited Jacob’s Well in the 19th century. This site, near Shechem (Nablus) in Samaria, is known also as Jacob's Fountain.
It is a deep well hewn out of solid rock that has been associated in religious tradition with Jacob for roughly two millennia.

The flock of sheep in the picture were photographed in one of the kibbutzim in Galilee. The sheep and the shepherd have been an integral part of the landscape of the Land of Israel since Biblical times.
In 1901, as the people began to return to Zion, the first flock of sheep was established in the village of Yavniel in Lower Galilee, and this beautiful ancient feature returned to the land. Today the various kibbutzim in Israel own more than 100,000 sheep.

The region takes its name from the city of Samaria, the capital of the Kingdom of Israel under King Ahab.

This picture was taken from the summit of the Mount of Olives, overlooking the walls of the Old City of Jerusalem, with the Golden Gate (the Gate of Mercy) at its center. The hill gets its name from the olive groves that once covered it.
The Mount of Olives is holy to both Jews and Christians, and is covered with tens of thousands of graves, like those in this picture, because of the Jewish custom of burying their dead facing the Holy City. This practice has survived since the days of the Second Temple.

This painting (by David Roberts, who visited the Holy Land in 1839) shows the Spring of Job, located on the northern shores of the Sea of Galilee in the Tabgha valley next to Capernaum.
The name of the Spring derives from the tradition that Job was healed by the waters of this spring from the physical afflictions visited on him by Satan. To this day, the Spring is believed to have medicinal properties.

This is the Western Wall, the Holy of Holies of the Jewish people. To this they turned during 2000 years of exile, since the destruction of the 2nd Temple in the year 70.

This picture was taken at the 3D 1:50 model of Jerusalem on display at the Jerusalem Museum. It depicts the city at the end of the Second Temple period in the year 66CE, four years before the destruction of the Temple in 70CE.
The crowning glory of the model is the Temple itself, which experts believe to be a faithful and authentic recreation of the holy building as it was at that time.
